SUPERHEROES

by Mark Rogers
Presented by Bodysnatchers

No one's going to tell you what to do.

Two young women, worlds apart, both at breaking point. It’s November, 2017. On the south coast of NSW, Emily has forgotten her nephews’ birthday party and needs her ex-boyfriend to answer her texts. In Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jana’s trip to the grocery store puts her smack bang in the middle of the European refugee crisis.

At two points on the globe, these stories play out in parallel. And with no caped dudes in spandex coming to the rescue, it’s up to Emily and Jana to save themselves. But what does it mean to take responsibility for our actions? And what does being a hero really look like?

Featuring twinned monologues threaded through with scenes of devastating humanity, this masterful play comes to Magandjin for the first time, staged by the team behind Naked & Screaming (Best Production, 2022 Matilda Awards).

The only play to win both of Australia’s major new play prizes in the same year, SUPERHEROES is a truly original work - savage, tender and hopeful.
